BREAKING NEWS: Around 160 Palestinian Refugees Find Solace in South Africa

Around 160 Palestinian refugees arrived at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, earlier today, fleeing the violence and conflict in Gaza. The group, which includes children and pregnant women, was welcomed by humanitarian teams from Gift of the Givers, a prominent South African aid organization.

Many of the refugees arrived without passport stamps, a move reportedly made by Israeli authorities to exacerbate their suffering. Gift of the Givers founder, Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman, expressed gratitude towards South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) for allowing the refugees to enter the country.

This is the second group of Palestinian refugees to arrive in South Africa, with the first batch arriving in October. The country has been a vocal supporter of Palestine, having instituted a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2023.

The refugees will receive humanitarian assistance from Gift of the Givers and other civil society partners. South Africa's decision to open its doors to these refugees is a testament to its commitment to standing with Palestine, as stated by Dr. Sooliman.
