Tight security is in place at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility in Pretoria ahead of Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala's testimony before Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee. Matlala, an attempted murder accused and alleged crime kingpin, is set to testify from the maximum-security prison where he's being held.
The committee is investigating allegations of corruption in the criminal justice system, and Matlala's testimony is expected to shed light on his alleged links to senior law enforcement officials, including suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Matlala faces charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, fraud, and defeating the ends of justice, linked to incidents in Johannesburg between October 12 and 17, 2023. His testimony is scheduled to take place between November 26 and 28.
The committee has met to discuss the interim report on their work and outstanding consultations with other witnesses. The hearing is expected to provide crucial insights into the alleged corruption and connections within the justice system.
