Johannesburg, – Notorious alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is set to appear before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption, but he will do so from the high‑security Kgosi Mampuru C‑Max Prison. The committee has arranged a secure video link so Matlala can give his testimony without leaving the facility.
Matlala, who is currently detained awaiting trial on charges that include attempted murder, fraud, drug trafficking and contract killings, has been linked to a sprawling organised‑crime network that authorities say has operated in South Africa for more than a decade. The Ad Hoc Committee hopes his testimony will shed light on the alleged “Big Five” police syndicate and any links between senior officers and criminal elements.
