BREAKING NEWS: Zuma’s Daughter Opens Case Against Sister - Zuma-Sambudla, Others Over Trafficking of South Africans to Ukraine War
Nkosazana Bonganini Zuma-Mncube, daughter of former President Jacob Zuma, has filed a criminal case against her sister Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, Siphokazi Xuma, and Blessing Khoza. The complaint, lodged at the Sandton Police Station on Saturday, alleges the trio contravened the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Act, the Regulation of Foreign Military Assistance Act, and the Common Law Act of Fraud.
The case stems from 17 South African men, including eight of Zuma-Mncube’s family members, who were reportedly lured to Russia under false pretenses and handed to a Russian mercenary group to fight in the Ukraine war without their consent. The victims, aged 20-39, are from KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
Zuma-Mncube stated, “These men were lured to Russia under false pretenses and handed to a Russian mercenary group to fight in the Ukraine war without their knowledge or consent.” She urged the government to expedite efforts to secure their return and warned South Africans to be cautious of “too-good-to-be-true” opportunities in conflict zones.
Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, a member of Parliament for the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, is currently on trial for inciting violence during the 2021 social unrest. The South African government has confirmed receiving distress calls from the trapped individuals and is working diplomatically to bring them home. The case highlights concerns about human trafficking and the illegal recruitment of citizens for foreign military conflicts.
