The legal representatives of Vusimuzi "CAT" Matlala, the alleged crime kingpin facing attempted murder and other serious charges, have warned they will seek an urgent interdict to stop the Ad Hoc Committee’s investigation into allegations of police corruption. The committee, established after KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s claims of criminal infiltration in the justice system, was set to hear Matlala’s testimony via video link from Kgosi Mampuru C-Max Prison on Tuesday.
Matlala, accused of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and money laundering, is expected to provide evidence about alleged links between senior officials and organized crime networks. The committee plans to question him about the "Big Five" police syndicate. His lawyers argue the proceedings may violate his rights, while the committee cites security concerns for the virtual hearing. The case has heightened tensions, with Matlala’s testimony seen as critical to the investigation.
