BREAKING NEWS : ANC Gives SACP Ultimatum Over Election Decision, Threatens To Terminate ANC Membership of SACP Members
The African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) has rejected the idea of dual membership for South African Communist Party (SACP) members, unless the SACP reverses its decision to contest elections on its own. This was revealed by ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, who told the party's National General Council that the NEC has given the SACP an ultimatum: either backtrack on its decision or have its members lose their ANC membership.
Mbalula warned that the SACP's decision to contest elections independently could weaken the tripartite alliance between the ANC, SACP, and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU). He emphasized that the ANC should not be arrogant towards the SACP, but rather try to persuade them to reconsider their decision.
The SACP's decision to contest elections has already led to tensions within the alliance, and the ANC's NEC has decided to address the issue. The party's National General Council is currently discussing the matter, and the outcome will determine the future of the alliance.
