Michael Sandlana, leader of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC) Jerusalema faction in Brits, and his spokesperson, Vusi Ndala, were arrested last week along with Pretoria High Court Judge Portia Phahlane and her son Kagiso. The arrests are linked to allegations of corruption and money laundering related to a long-standing succession dispute within the church.
The case involves allegations that Sandlana paid bribes to Judge Phahlane to influence a court ruling in his favor. The police investigation revealed a money trail worth millions of rand that allegedly exchanged hands among the accused.
Judge Phahlane, Sandlana, Ndala, and Kagiso Phahlane appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, where Phahlane was granted R50,000 bail, while Sandlana's bail application was postponed. The case has sparked concerns about corruption within the judiciary and the church.
