A bus travelling from Gauteng to Zimbabwe lost control and plunged into an embankment on the N1 near Ingwe Lodge in Makhado, Limpopo, on Wednesday morning. At this stage, the exact cause of the accident remains unknown, but authorities have confirmed multiple fatalities and injuries. A competent authority will release official casualty numbers in due course.
The bus was en route from Gauteng to Zimbabwe, though it has not yet been established whether all passengers were bound for Zimbabwe. The vehicle remains in the ditch, making it difficult to determine the exact number of occupants at the time of the incident. Emergency services are on scene, and rescue operations are ongoing.
The N1 remains closed to traffic, and motorists are advised to use the alternative route via Nzhelele’s R523 road until further notice. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
