Mmapeu Hlanga, a Limpopo woman, has finally received justice after being attacked with acid by Ivyone Maja, her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend, in October 2024. The Mokopane Regional Court sentenced Maja to 18 years imprisonment for attempted murder, with an additional 2-year sentence for pouring acid to run concurrently.
The attack, sparked by a love triangle, left Mmapeu with severe burns and impaired vision. She has been undergoing treatment and has received support from the community and organizations, with over R120,000 donated to help with her medical expenses.
Mmapeu has been vocal about her experience, using her platform to raise awareness about domestic violence and the importance of seeking help. The Lentswe Laka Foundation commends her bravery and resilience, hoping the sentence brings closure and serves as a deterrent to potential perpetrators.
