MK Party Member Colleen Makhubele Resigns From Parliament

Colleen Makhubele, the former chief‑whip of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, has officially resigned from her seat in the National Assembly, stating that she can “better serve South Africans” outside of Parliament.

In a brief statement released on Monday, Makhubele thanked party leader Jacob Zuma and reflected on her tenure, noting that her decision follows a period of internal turbulence within the MK party, which recently removed her from the chief‑whip role but allowed her to retain her MP status.

She added that stepping down will enable her to pursue community‑focused initiatives and “bring my experience to the people on the ground,” a move she believes will have a more direct impact on citizens’ lives.
