NEWS OF THE DAY: Three accused in e‑hailing driver murder abandon bail, case postponed for further investigations

The three people charged with killing 22‑year‑old e‑hailing driver Isaac Satlat have abandoned their bid for bail, with the Pretoria Magistrates Court postponing the case for further investigations. Satlat was hijacked and strangled to death last week by a man and woman who had requested the e‑hailing service; the attack was captured on his dashcam and has been widely circulated online.

Dikeledi Mphela, Gotsione Machidi and McLaren Mushwana appeared briefly before the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday, February 16, 2026, and are expected to return for a formal bail hearing on February 24. Police say investigations are ongoing, and a fourth suspect has already handed himself in.
