BREAKING NEWS : ANC's Mbalula: Dada Morero to Remain Johannesburg Mayor, REC Decision 'Null and Void'

ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has stated that Dada Morero should remain the mayor of Johannesburg, claiming the regional executive committee (REC) doesn't have the authority to remove him. Mbalula emphasized that the REC's decision to recall Morero was not endorsed by the party's national officials or National Working Committee, rendering it "null and void".

The dispute stems from tensions within the Johannesburg ANC, following a court challenge to the party's December 2025 regional conference outcome, where Loyiso Masuku was elected chairperson. Morero, an ally of Mbalula, didn't personally file the court challenge, but allies aligned to him supported the action.

Mbalula has vowed to meet with the Johannesburg region to address the issue, stating that the party's top leadership will soon begin interviewing candidates for mayoral positions ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
