Mama Joy, the popular South African sports superfan, is fuming after Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie denied her funding to attend the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The minister had previously announced that he would no longer be sponsoring trips for superfans, citing that the funds could be better used to support struggling athletes and artists.
Mama Joy took to social media to express her disappointment, calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene and urging fans to accept that they won't be getting sponsored tickets. In a cheeky response, Minister McKenzie joked that Mama Joy's French husband could foot the bill, highlighting the strong Euro.
This isn't the first time Mama Joy has faced funding issues; she's previously attended several international sporting events, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, reportedly via sponsorships.
