Shebeshixt Back in Polokwane Court Thursday for Bail Judgment

Polokwane – Limpopo musician Shebeshixt is expected back in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for judgment in his bail application.

The rapper, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Chauke, has been in custody since his arrest earlier this month. He faces multiple charges, including reckless and negligent driving, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and defeating the ends of justice. The charges stem from several separate incidents reported in Polokwane and surrounding areas.

During his bail hearing last week, the State opposed his release, citing the seriousness of the charges and concerns that he may interfere with witnesses. The defence argued that Chauke is not a flight risk and should be granted bail with strict conditions.

Magistrate’s Court officials confirmed that judgment on the application will be handed down on Thursday morning. Chauke’s case has drawn significant public attention in Limpopo, with supporters gathering outside court during previous appearances. Police have maintained a visible presence at the court for his hearings.

The National Prosecuting Authority said it will comment after Thursday’s judgment. Shebeshixt remains in custody until the court’s decision.

Chauke’s legal team submitted affidavits from family members and his manager, stating he has strong community ties and will comply with any bail conditions set by the court. They also indicated he is willing to surrender his passport and report to a local police station weekly if released.

The State, however, told the court it has video footage and witness statements linking Chauke to the alleged offences. Prosecutors argued that granting bail could undermine public confidence in the justice system given the violent nature of some of the charges.

Meanwhile, the Limpopo Artists Movement has called for calm ahead of Thursday’s proceedings. The group urged fans and members of the public to respect the court process and avoid any disruptions outside the court building.
