BREAKING NEWS: Joe ‘Ferrari’ Sibanyoni extortion case re-enrolled, accused expected to surrender tomorrow

Kwaggafontein – The high-profile extortion and money laundering case against Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and his co-accused is back on the court roll, with the National Prosecuting Authority confirming the matter will be re-enrolled.

The NPA said the accused are expected to surrender tomorrow to face charges of extorting more than R2.2 million from a mining businessman between 2022 and 2025. Sibanyoni appears alongside Bafana Sindane, Mvimbi Masilela and Philemon Msiza.

The case was struck off the roll on 18 May 2026 at the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court after prosecutor Mkhuseli Ntaba failed to appear. Chief Magistrate Tuletu Tonjeni found Ntaba in contempt of court, issued a warrant for his arrest, and struck the matter from the roll. Ntaba has since been suspended by the NPA pending disciplinary proceedings.

National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andy Mothibi said the NPA is within its rights to reinstate the case. “While this is disappointing, it is not a setback as we are within our right and authority to reinstate the case once there is compliance with the legal provisions governing matters removed from the court roll in this manner,” Mothibi said.

NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed the authority is pursuing an application for leave to appeal Tonjeni’s contempt order and warrant against Ntaba, and wants the case back on the roll so the accused can answer the charges. The NPA has also filed a formal complaint with the Magistrates Commission over how Tonjeni handled the proceedings.

Sibanyoni, known for his fleet of luxury Ferraris, denies involvement. “I’m not involved with this case,” he told reporters after his initial appearance on 13 May 2026.

Police say the complainant was forced to pay “protection fees” for nearly three years before opening a case with SAPS. Mpumalanga police spokesperson Col. Mavela Masondo said investigators still believe they have a solid case.

The NPA has not confirmed the exact date and court for the re-enrolment, but stated the matter will proceed once procedural requirements are met.
