BREAKING NEWS: MKP Supreme Leader Jacob Zuma Suspends MK Party Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela’s Membership
JOHANNESBURG — MKP Supreme Leader Jacob Zuma has suspended uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela’s membership with immediate effect, citing allegations of “sowing division and bringing the party into disrepute”.
The suspension was communicated in a letter dated Tuesday, 19 May 2026, from MKP National Chairperson Nkosinathi Nhleko, who said Zuma made the decision pending the outcome of an investigation. Ndhlela was also removed as an MP and instructed to return all party property, including documents, devices, membership cards, and access credentials, within seven days.
The move follows Ndhlela’s controversial media statement about the newly launched MK Institute, which he said would take full control of the party’s leadership structures. The party declared the statement “null and void” and unconstitutional, leading to his immediate removal as spokesperson.
Former The Star editor Sifiso Mahlangu has been appointed as the new national spokesperson. The party announced the change on Monday during a briefing addressed by Zuma and Secretary-General Sibonelo Nomvalo.
Ndhlela had not made a public statement about the suspension at the time of writing.
The MK Party has seen a series of leadership changes and internal disputes since its formation, including the dismissal of former Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu in June 2025.
