Johannesburg – The Gauteng High Court has found social media personality Musa Khawula guilty of contempt of court in a case brought by Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema.
The court sentenced Khawula to 30 days’ imprisonment, which was wholly suspended. As part of the order, he is required to issue a public apology and comply with the court’s directive or face serving the jail term.
The matter stemmed from alleged breaches of a court order obtained by Malema. The judge said the suspended sentence was conditional on Khawula adhering to the terms set out by the court.
Khawula has not commented publicly on the ruling. The Economic Freedom Fighters welcomed the judgment, stating it upheld the authority of the courts.
The court has not indicated a deadline for the apology, but warned that non-compliance would result in the immediate activation of the suspended sentence.
